In one day we verb a lot. It is only 10 am and I have already verbed in about 100 different ways. I have woken, shut/ opened (eyes), rolled (over), hugged (honeybear), risen (very Jesus of me…), sat (on toilet), undressed, dressed, swallowed (pills and water), jogged, munched, fed (the cat), spray and wiped (cat wee), coffeed (also a new verb) and now here I am for the first time BLOGGING.
It took a little for people to get used to ‘Blogging’ as a verb- didn’t it? Do you remember people saying it felt a little dirty…like something you would do in a toilet and not on a computer….unless you were really disoriented. Actually recently a friend told me that her three year old recently mistook her shining white lap top for the loo in the middle of the night and she woke in the morning to find it in sitting in a mysterious puddle. We’ve all done it- the disorientated wee – at some stage in our lives. Friends of mine once mistook my walk-in wardrobe for a toilet and relieved themselves in the middle of the night- that’s what you get for inviting English backpackers into your home. Still- could have been worse if they were German …. I can’t point the finger though. An old housemate of mine often dines out on the story of when late one night after one of our parties, I stumbled into the bathroom, pulled down my pants and just as I was about to relieve myself she yelled “Liz!”, and I realised that I was squatting at the foot of her futon.
And now to “Skitching”- the title of my Blog. Apart from being my last name, Skitch, I recently discovered that it too is a verb. According to urban dictionary (heaps of fun- see link below), Skitching is to skate and hitch at the same time (as seen in “Back to the Future”). That is my favorite of the definitions…unfortunately others include:
2. Skitch (v): to spray body fluids
Eg: “I was so scared I skitched myself”
3. Skitch (v): short for skinny bitch
Mmmmmm. But the beauty of Urban Dictionary is you can add new definitions for words. So I think I will add this one for Skitching:
4. Skitch(v): Like “sketch” but instead of penciling pictures it is penning ideas/ to jam ideas in a jazz like fashion.
Eg: (sounds coolest read in US Rapper accent) “We was smokin and drinking and skitchin’ till 3am”
I realised I had gotten off pretty lightly though, when I started looking up my friend’s names. for example, a friend of mine has the surname “Kronk”which according to urban dictionary is a noun.
Kronk(n): a very ugly person slightly resembling shreck or any ogre type being. A smelly beast”.
Oh dear! I don’t think it can get much worse than that! Okay, enough skitching (and I mean that in the jamming ideas way, not the spraying of fluids way), time to head out into the world and verb some more.
